What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“It would not be possible to push Cry of Athena to its full potential without the players' input, feedback, and support. Having strong communication with the community will help make the game as fun and enjoyable as it can be.

With the players' backing we can take our time and build a VR battle simulator with strong mechanics and content, with the community's feedback constantly shaping it.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We estimate that Cry of Athena will be in Early Access for at least two years.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“By the full version, we are aiming to put in more factions, units, god characters, levels, unique abilities, varied weapons (from divine to modern arms), more god powers and have the full range of VR mechanics and general game implementations such as level editing.

Strategy will play into battles such as the use of unit formations, morale system, as well as allied and enemy AI directors.

We are also strongly considering adding official mod support to allow for community made content.

We would like to include a fully functional level creation system with building/fortification spawning, land deformation and scripting. Along with this, we'll want to make these community made levels shareable.

Since the story of Cry of Athena encompasses the time period between ancient Greece and modern day as well as including other myths, fiction, and folklore of other cultures, there are many possible additions that can be made both during Early Access and after.

We will consider the game to be fully released once it feels well rounded with content and mechanics, which will be based in large part by the players' thoughts and feedback on its state.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Cry of Athena as it is will come with the main mode: a sandbox battle simulator mode where you can spawn in allies and enemies to fight in a number of settings like Egypt, Greece, the Mediterranean islands and more - each featuring destructible environments. Additionally, there are a number of pre-made scenarios and game modes for more structured gameplay. There are already dozens of different weapons to choose from and over 40 different AI to experiment with. On top of all this, you can also play as a towering god and use divine powers such as raining meteors and lightning upon the battlefield.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will be priced about half as much as it would compared to full release when it is first released in Early Access and will increment slowly as more content is implemented and eventually raise to full price by full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback is critical to achieving the vision for a finalized version of the game. As mentioned before, we have an official Discord channel listed in the description where you can support the game via feedback and suggestions. We love getting the community involved on the creative process so good suggestions have a strong likelihood of being implemented. Only with the community can the game be able to reach its full potential!”
