What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“For an episodic game, Early Access gives us a chance to take feedback into account as we plan and refine upcoming chapters, as well as polish the chapters we've already shared, until the game connects with our players in the best way possible.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game will be in Early Access until all chapters in Season 1 have been released. We plan to treat Season 2 as a separate, sequel game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version does not contain all of the chapters of story content that will be included in the final version. Currently, it includes 5 chapters, whereas the final release is planned to contain 20 chapters. We will be adding more chapters to the Early Access version as we go, but will not move out of Early Access until the last chapter has been added.

The Early Access version of the story is also subject to adjustments based on feedback, so it may differ from the final release version of the story.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Beyond the content in the demo, Early Access includes the first 5 chapters of Season 1. The demo and Chapters 1-5 together are about 100k words, and Season 1 is expected to include 20 chapters. Fully voiced dialog is included in all chapters currently available in Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“If the scope of the content to be included in the final release grows enough to merit it, we may raise the final price. If so, we will announce this ahead of time so that players have a chance to buy at the original price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to point players to our Discord and social media where we can chat about how the game is going and poll them about upcoming considerations during development, and we will take feedback from anything posted on Steam.”

Reviews

“Playing one chapter already feels like watching a whole movie. The subtle movement of the characters’ facial expressions along with the comic book and anime art-style fusion keep me immersed throughout. This is one of the best early access experiences that I’ve had so far when it comes to visual novels.”

“The characters feel realistic and the voice-acting is exceptional, lending a human touch to a narrative that has some decidedly outlandish elements in it. It’s an absolute delight to hear the wonderful foley effects, and the graphics are gorgeous.”

“I just want to experience the entire story now, because it's honestly that good!”

About This Game

Gods of the Twilight is an episodic cyberpunk visual novel where old magic returns to a world of tech. Control two protagonists in parallel as they start to realize they're more than human. Decide who to trust when supernatural and human groups each have their own agendas, and ancient truths about you and your companions start to resurface.

This is a world where magic has mostly been forgotten, but with Ragnarök approaching, strange events are taking shape... especially in the lives of Althea and Farkas, a young woman and man living on the city-ship of New Reykjavík. You control both of them as they face mysterious assassins, their own emerging abilities, and hints of the roles they may choose to play in world-shaking events to come. They can become friends, rivals, or even lovers with a variety of companions—including each other—as they navigate a web of potential allies and enemies... including gods, monsters, governments, corporations, and criminals.

  • Fully voiced dialog!
  • Choose how the world ends (hundreds of variables shape your story)!
  • Choose which characters will become your allies, enemies, friends, rivals, or lovers.
  • An episodic story released over time, where choices carry over between chapters and seasons.
  • Over 100k words in the demo and first installment of episodic chapters.

The two player characters encounter companions who can share their journey toward the apocalypse. It's up to you how these relationships develop, and whether either player character may change alliegences entirely.

Althea Mishra - A scholarly but sheltered daughter of two high-achieving parents, she’s an intellectual who nonetheless loves dirty jokes.

Farkas Hekluson - Under the hardened exterior of a guy who survived rough streets growing up, he’s a scarred introvert deeply protective of those he cares about.

Sara Grímsdóttir - Sensitivity and strength combined, this mostly soft-spoken girl is just as full of bravery as she is compassion for anyone she encounters.

Hektor Koskinen - A shameless dork, he’s involuntarily wealthy thanks to his CEO father, but nonetheless straightforward and honest to a fault.

Lieutenant Cebisa Komani - A duty-driven Icelandic special forces police officer, she’s now an operative for the highly classified international operation dealing with recent supernatural occurrences.

Mikael Pulkkinen - Hector’s valet, who has become more like an older brother to him through the years they’ve spent together. Easily sees through bullshit and has zero tolerance for it.

Jóhannes Stefánsson - A personal assistant to Althea's parents, he likes to keep things strictly professional and not reveal much about himself, but the recent strange occurrences will test the limits of this mask.

And more as the story unfolds!
