Coming Soon To Early Access

The developers of this game intend to release as a work in progress, developing with the feedback of players.

Note: Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development. Learn more

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Waiting for the game to be completely finished would mean players waiting for several months or years to have fun. Why wait when you can have fun now?
The game has enough content to offer fun replayability.
Probably not bug free (even though I am trying really hard and I am sure with your help we will get them all), but you can get a good feel of what the scope of this game is and in what direction it will move in the future.
Not all the content or features we are intending to add are currently in the game. but at this point, we need feedback and interaction with the community to move in the right direction and polish the game :)”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It is a hard question to answer. For as long as we won't be satisfied with our product. We are targeting a maximum of a year of EA as the game is pretty playable now!”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version should have improved physics, performances, possibly higher player count for online and offline matches, as well as new maps, fronts, human-looking infantry and better sounds/GFX and UI.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game currently features 4 playable countries: USA, Germany, United Kingdom and the Soviet Union.

There are over 70 tanks and 70 planes that are ready to be thrown into battle, and over 170 weapons available as well (this includes weapons present on vehicles as well).

You can play any role (Infantryman, machine gunner, pilot, tank crew...).
Engineers are allowed to build a wide variety of structures on the map during a game (Guns, structures, mines...)

At the moment, there's a single test map (Fields of Normandy, 2km x 2km) with different game modes: Deathmatch (the usual), Capture the Flag, Paratroopers Attack (Attacking team spawns in transport planes) and Survival (The defending team must hold its single flag).

The game has been translated in over 10 languages and can most likely be played in your native language.

Offline / Solo games can have up to 128 players (you + bots), online ones are capped at 32.

It is natively playable on Windows, Mac and Linux.

Replayability is high, more maps will come.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Most likely, yes, could be as much as twice as what it currently is. We will discuss with the players to see what a fair price would be for the scope and possibilities the game offers.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will be working hand in hand with the community during the Early Access and after. This has always been something that was dear to us, and we don't intend to change it. We have a discord server that you can join to directly chat with us, provide your ideas, suggest balance changes, or historical inaccuracies, but also reporting bugs.

If you do not have discord, you can use the in-game feedback system to the same extent, our exchanges will therefore stay in the e-mail format.

General communication will be done both in the Discord server as well as on Steam (events/posts).”

About This Game

We are a team of two, it's just my brother and I. He is the artist, he does the level design, modelling, while I am the programmer. We will welcome any constructive feedback and act on it. Don't be afraid to get in touch with us! We are listening to the players (we know what it is, we are both players before being game devs).

Our vision for the realism of this game is somewhere in the middle. You will not have to empty an entire mag to kill an enemy. You will not be able to carry a machine gun as a main weapon and a rifle as a secondary weapon. We try to stick to realistic loadouts. You will play as a pretty average soldier.
You will die very quickly if exposed to enemy fire. You will be shell shocked if you stay near a gun while it fires (seriously, don't).
Trees can be destroyed, either by shooting at them or driving them over with tanks (or crashing with planes).
Terrain can be deformed and there will be craters wherever a shell or a bomb hits the ground.
Tanks have plenty of shell types with realistic behaviours (AP, APC, APCBC, APHE, APCR, HE, HEAT...). Damage model for tanks takes into armour armour slope, armour thickness at impact point, angle of the impact and shell type. All vehicles have modules (Engine, Turret, Gun, Tracks...) that can all be damaged/destroyed. Crews can and will also be killed.
There are ricochets, and there is no limit on them, go crazy and kill with physics!

Now, what's really new about Beasts of Steel is its strategic level on top of the tactical level. On the very last screenshots you can see that there will be several campaigns consisting of maps made out of hexagons. It is turn based, but the battles can be resolved at a tactical level, as a traditional shooter.
You will have resources to manage (Steel, Oil, Rubber, Aluminium, Tungsten) in order to produce units, create armies, and capture victory points. It will play like our first game Hex of Steel, but with more resources, and battles in first person if you wish so.

Communication with the players is very important to us. Those of you who know me from our first game already know that I (as the programmer) am super fast to release patches (we're talking within the hour) when something is not working as expected, or implementing players ideas. For those of you who don't know me, feel free to read some of the reviews under our first game (Hex of Steel).
All of that to say, we value communication, and constructive criticism. If there is something bothering you in the game, or if you have a brilliant idea, let us know! We have a discord you can join to chat with us in real time (almost any hour of the day or night), or a good ol' mail.
