What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We're presenting this game in Early Access for two reasons: to ensure the level of
quality, and to verify that our blend of genre elements is working together as envisioned.
Firstly, based on our development experience with Lost Eidolons, we’ve set a goal for
Early Access to get more feedback from our players, and incorporate it into the game as
much as possible, to deliver a more polished final experience.
Secondly, Veil of the Witch is a unique blend of roguelite elements and turn-based
strategy RPGs. One of the key challenges of making that blend work is nailing the
pacing of the moment-to-moment experience. As a genre, SRPG’s tend inherently to be
slow-paced and thinky, which longer play sessions, while roguelites are all about short,
addictive loops.
We're constantly testing and validating these attempts internally, but we're still looking
for ways to engage and get feedback from the wider community, and Early Access is a
great way to do that.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“If all goes according to plan, we expect to have an EA period of as little as six months,
and an official release—with all content and improvements based on EA feedback—
within a year at the latest.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“In our plans, the game’s content would be the biggest difference between Early Access and the final release.
For the full launch version, we aim to have more types and numbers of battles, as well as more types and numbers of random travel events you'll encounter between battles.
We’re also planning additional bosses for the full release, which can only be encountered by fulfilling certain conditions. Furthermore, we have ideas for adding a new type of equipment (accessories), an item system for strategic use in dire scenarios, and a system to adjust the difficulty of the game.
And of course, we are hoping to make the narrative experience both richer and more properly complete, allowing players to learn the full truth about the setting, their enemies, their allies, and their own player character, Ashe.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“All of the game’s current content is available in Early Access, except for the things
mentioned above, that we’re holding back until the full release.
Within the game's basic flow of three acts, you'll enjoy dozens of dynamic battles, which
offer different enemy compositions even when repeating the same scenarios, as well as
dozens of random travel events to encounter between battles.
There are a total of nine party characters to choose from, each with their own class, and
they can become stronger through class advancement. The main character can also
switch classes if certain conditions are met.
Each character has more than 20 skills, which can be randomized and combined to
create a unique party. Over 50 artifacts will also impact your adventure with various
buffs and debuffs.
In addition, the Altar of Fire allows you to apply permanent buffs to your party, allowing
for steady meta-progression over time.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Nothing is set in stone yet, as a true Early Access period inherently means that it might change future plans about a project. That said, it is likely that the pricing will increase during or after Early Access, as we add more content and expand the gameplay experience.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“During the development of our previous game, Lost Eidolons, we took feedback on the
game through a variety of channels.
For Veil of the Witch, we're really focusing our efforts on Steam Early Access, both to
keep us all from losing our hair, and to ensure we’re gathering and implementing
feedback as efficiently as possible.
You can share feedback through Steam or our Discord (//discord.gg/46AW7zWyCv). We read pretty much
everything that’s sent to us and evaluate it all very carefully. We’ll also be sharing
regular development updates and changes with players all through Early Access and
beyond.”

About This Game

A remote island, besieged by the dead.

A shipwrecked traveler, plagued by lost memories.

A mysterious witch, in a realm between life and death.

Her motives are hazy. But the offer is simple: become her champion, and bring hell to her enemies. In exchange, you’ll gain a power others would kill for:

The chance to live again.

Now, cast headlong into a power struggle that threatens to upend the world, it's up to you to assemble your party, blaze a trail, and uncover the memories of your former life.

Craft your moves and crush your foes, with crunchy grid-based combat that's fast and mean. Face off against a variety of enemies, from crazed Imperial cultists to the flesh-hungry Fallen, most of whom will wreck your day before you can blink.

That is, unless you take advantage of all the tools at your disposal: persistent upgrades, environmental hazards, elemental interactions, weapon affinities, skill synergies, and more!

The road to your enemies' door is long and treacherous, and no two journeys are alike. Choose your path and navigate choice-driven random encounters that can either lend you the advantage, or rip it cruelly away.

Tackle challenges your way, with 9 playable characters, dozens of persistent upgrades, over 200 unique skills, and 30+ game-changing Relics.

If at first you don't succeed: die, die again.

As you journey across the island, you'll meet a crew of misfits and killers battling demons of their own. Grow your bonds, learn their stories, and help them regain the things they've lost.

But it’s not all about other people. Each time you die, you’ll also collect new shards of your own memory, and slowly piece together the puzzle of the life you lost… and the man you came here searching for…
