What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We would like to get the game out to players so that the community can help inform what content to spend our time & resources on. We plan on releasing enough content to keep each run different & interesting, then to add more spirits, items & areas to the game during the early access period to deepen the game even further.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“1 year”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The early access version will be a full featured version of the game, but with less content. We plan to add more captureable spirits, items and areas to the game. There will also be a story in the full release, but this will be minimised in the early access version. The early access version will focus more on the gameplay and the core roguelite experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The early access version of the game is currently under development and not purchasable, It will be released in Summer 2024.

Currently turn based battles, a small number of bullet hell patterns, 10 capturable spirits and procedural overworld generation with one biome has been implemented. This is only a fraction of the planned content for the early access version, but we are focusing on polishing the core mechanics of the game. We will add content closer to release. On release of the early access version we plan to have 30 capturable spirits and 2 playable areas.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, Interstice will always be the same price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Once the early access version has been released, we will update the game with content patches every 2 weeks. These usually contain new capturable spirits or playable areas. However the types, affinities & movesets of these new spirits will be directed by the community.

Closer to the release date the discord for the game will be made public, here we will hold polls deciding what sort of additions the community is interested in and will tailor the content patches based on community feedback.”

About This Game

Interstice is a roguelite monster capture game, a world of floating islands is generated each playthrough. You can capture spirits inside and use them for battle, but if they die they are gone permanently. Build your team, fight in strategic turn based battles, dodge bullet hell patterns and battle your way to the centre of the ever changing Interstice.

MANA SYSTEM Spend mana each turn for spirits to perform moves
MAIN PHASE: Use buffs & debuffs & to control the battlefield
BATTLE PHASE: Choose attacks to deal damage & dodge bullet hell projectiles.

  • 3 in battle at one time
  • 8 spirits in a party
  • Spirits lost upon death
  • 100 possible different spirits (Will launch in early access with less than this)
  • Each spirit can be customised with different moves & items

Explore the Interstice, a procedurally generated world of floating islands serving as the limbo between life & death. Meet other lost souls and travel toward the mystery at the centre.

I started making interstice while playing a nuzlocke & I noticed how much I was playing on 4x speed and bored. While there are incredible moments, there is a lot of fluff. I decided to make my own monster capture game, one with permadeath & procedurally generated worlds. So that I could have the same intensity without all the boring sections. Somewhere along the way I added my love of bullet hell games & the core of interstice was born. If that's the sort of thing you're into, hopefully Interstice will be entertaining to you too.
