What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“As an independent developer working alone in my spare time, I will need players to help test and improve the game, just like I've been doing for a few decades on projects like Quake 2 Evolved Blood Culture, Call of Duty Frontlines and Call of Duty Rio.

With player feedback it is extremely important to find strange bugs and adjust and evolve the gameplay.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“After the Early Access launch, we plan to keep it at this stage for 1-2 years at most, and then do a full release, but I will only open it to the public and start selling copies when I have at least one very playable map with a reasonable amount of content. Like all my releases in my almost 40 years of working in games, I always want to release stable versions. This is mandatory in my concept.

Until then, I highly recommend playing Call of Duty Rio to get a taste of what you will experience with Comando Rio.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to add much more content over time, such as maps, game modes, characters, weapons and customizations for example. Exactly how I have been working on my projects over the last few decades.

I also hope that all the bugs found in the early access period are all resolved, and we just have 100% fun.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Working on game mechanics now. Early stage.

I suggest playing Call of Duty Rio while you wait, it's FREE.

Unfortunately, due to the mod's limitations, it only has Portuguese as its language. I suggest using a translator through your cell phone camera to be able to play. But rest assured that Comando Rio will have a version entirely in English to please all Elite Squad fans from all over the world.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the price will increase upon full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“During all my projects for almost 40 years working with games, they have always been developed side by side with the players, solving bugs and improving the experience.

So this project will be no different, I won't change what has been working for so many decades. From the moment Early Access is launched, all development will be done online, playing daily with players, and thus adjusting the balance and fixing bugs, exactly as I have been working with you all these years.

We will use our Steam, social pages, forums, Steam community, and Discord to keep everyone up to date with every step of development, as always.

Unlike most, I really play my creations exhaustively and continue playing for decades, I really enjoy playing my games for a long time. With this I can really see what works and what doesn't and how to always improve, that's what I've been doing for the last 16 years working with Call of Duty, and that's what I intend to continue doing with Rio Command.”

About This Game

What to expect from Comando Rio

Firstly, it is not just a Remake of Call of Duty Rio in a new engine, but a completely new game continuing the plot started in the mod. Despite being Hardcore and having many mechanics similar to my previous works, which guarantees your satisfaction if you already like the style of my games. That's all I can reveal so far, but rest assured that like everything I've done to date, there will be serious innovations and big surprises, without the limitations of a mod.

The videos and screenshots initially posted here portrayed previous work on Call of Duty Rio as just a teaser of what was to come. Over time, they were replaced by current content from Comando Rio.

Past

It is not new that wars between Criminal Factions in Rio de Janeiro are extremely violent, leaving countless innocent people dead every year.
The State has been trying in vain to fight them for decades with limited resources and inferior weapons. Every year things get more out of control and today practically every corner of the city has an owner, with the exception of the noble areas of the South Zone, the owner is not the State.

The Government finds itself with no way out and has no other choice but to declare war against these Factions and Militias that dominate the City. Several areas of the city are evacuated and all favelas are declared a war zone, recommending that all residents leave their homes until everything returns to normal. All police forces are mobilized to hunt down and eliminate all members of the factions, whatever the cost.

These operations became known as "Call of Duty Rio".

Present

We don't know exactly when or how it happened, but in recent years a new, much more organized type of criminal organization has emerged, which in a short time became the only militia in the city, and before we realized it, it also dominated the Jogo do Bicho (Animal's Game) in all of Rio de Janeiro. As a result, this militia quickly spread throughout the city, no longer remaining isolated in some poorer communities or areas.

When the heads of the other militias and Jogo do Bicho eventually turned up dead, both the government and the citizens didn't give a damn, and in fact they were even grateful, but they didn't realize the monster that was forming.

They already had practically all crime under their command, but the biggest and most profitable of them was missing, drug trafficking. We found out too late that there would be a meeting imposed by them with the leaders of the criminal factions Comando Vermelho (CV), Amigos dos Amigos (ADA) and Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP).

We do not know whether the intention was to promote an alliance or from the beginning to subject them to this new parallel regime. But that same night none of them returned alive from this meeting, and this new militia that we can also consider a Criminal Faction took over all the murders in the name of the Comando Maior (CM), and that they were taking total control of crime in Rio de Janeiro.

Future

Due to the incompetence and slowness of the Government and Justice, they were unable to predict the monster that was being created in the City while celebrating the deaths of criminal leaders, they ignored all warnings from both the Military and Civil Police, always thinking that it was no big deal. that was happening.

In yet another act of desperation by the government, a new elite team was created within BOPE itself, using the best police officers and military personnel who stood out in their corporations, which would finally be a unified police force very well equipped to try to put an end to it. It was named Unit Twelve but is already known and feared as the Red Skulls.

With the launch of Comando Rio will Call of Duty Rio be discontinued?

No. It will continue to receive content and remain online as long as players continue to support the project and mainly play.

Understand that Call of Duty Rio, being free and requiring extremely light hardware, means that a vast number of players can play it without problems even on computers that are 10-15 years old. For the same reason, unfortunately many of them will not be able to play Comando Rio due to the demands that a game on Unreal Engine 5 requires.

Therefore, keeping both projects online will leave everyone satisfied.

Will they have the same maps as Call of Duty Rio?

Not at first, I intend to create completely new experiences but I intend to make references to places from the past as Easter Eggs.

Will Call of Duty Rio missions continue in Comando Rio?

There will be new, completely remodeled and extensive missions with a lot of adrenaline. You can continue playing the old missions in Call of Duty Rio.

In Comando Rio will there be other languages or will it also be restricted to PT-BR as it is in Call of Duty Rio?

In Call of Duty Rio, due to limitations on the number of strings in a mod, it was not possible to create more than one language, which is why Portuguese was chosen for obvious reasons. But in Comando Rio there will be no such problem, with English since the launch of Early Access and more languages in the final version.

Will Comando Rio have as many maps as in Call of Duty Rio?

Yes and no, yes because the diversity will be much greater, but they will also be larger and we will be able to navigate between different and more diverse environments than the old maps. I promise I won't disappoint you.

About the author

Hajas has been making games/mods as a hobby for almost his entire life of over 40 years, and everything has always been done in his free time and free of charge for everyone.

His passion for FPS games gave us innovative creations several years before the big franchises started using "the same ideas" in the Call of Duty series, and after that almost every FPS game released in the last decade has something created by him. Battlefield and Star Wars Battlefront included to name just a few.

Call of Duty Frontlines is one of his best-known works, earning the nickname "EPIC Mod" when it was first chosen as the Call of Duty Mod of the Year 2008 by the renowned BashandSlash, something repeated twice more in ModDB in 2012 and 2018. Another highlight was when in 2009 LowPings recommended playing Frontlines instead of Modern Warfare 2 , because "the Frontlines mod is everything the official sequel is not" .

His last project was Call of Duty Rio, which also won the title of Call of Duty Mod of The Year 2021/2022 twice more. This project is still active with many players despite only focusing on the Brazilian market. It is a FREE project designed to run on any low-end PC. It is the basis for the creation of Comando Rio.
