Why Early Access?

“Witching Well is an ambitious project—an open world filled with magic, exploration, and meaningful stories. Developing something on this scale as a solo developer is a big undertaking, and Early Access provides a way to make it possible. By releasing the game early, I’m able to share it with players who want to support its growth, both through feedback and by helping fund its continued development.

In addition, early Access allows me to build the game with community feedback, responding to player experiences, preferences, and ideas while expanding the world and adding new content.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I’m hoping for no more than a year and a half to two years in Early Access. The timeline unfortunately depends on the level of support the game receives. The more players engage with and support the game, the faster I can keep expanding and refining Witching Well into the experience it’s meant to be.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of the game will include:

- Customizable Characters
- Additional systems such as Familiars and Automated Spells
- A larger map with unique locations
- More NPCs, stories, and unique character experiences
- More spells
- More building options

And many other activities and features awaiting discovery”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Witching Well is currently at the end of its Pre-Alpha stage, approaching Alpha.

The game has all of its staple systems, such as magic, building, a dynamic open world, and NPCs.

Alpha marks the completion of all foundational parts of the game and the beginning of the content expansion phase.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the change will be gradual.

Witching Well will enter Early Access at a low price point, which will gradually increase as more content is added and the game gets closer to full release.

Once the game hits full release, new content will continue to be added but the price will no longer go up.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Witching Well started as my game—a magic exploration game. But as I kept building, it started growing in its own direction. One choice led to another, and now, even in these early stages, it already feels like it has its own heart and soul; A direction it wants to grow in, and a sense of purpose that I hope can mean as much to others as it does to me.

I'm only one person. A flawed, opinionated person. Sometimes I'm too close to the game to see what makes certain parts of it special and fun. Witching Well needs to belong more to the community than it does to me. With a community to help shape it, I believe Witching Well will become what it's meant to be.”

About This Game

Embark on an enchanting adventure as a fledgling witch. You awaken on a world where magic is a tool for creativity, exploration, and connection. Build, Explore, and collect ingredients to craft spells.

Explore a vibrant, hand-crafted world brimming with secrets, enchanted creatures, and rich history. Along the way, you’ll interact with unique creatures, both mundane and magical alike. Grant wishes and help develop towns at Witching Wells. Watch the towns, and your relationship with their denizens, grow.

Dynamic Magic System

Combine spells and ingredients to create powerful new spells:
Basic spells can be created and combined to create new spells altogether. Mix the glow spell with the Color spell and a touch of light from the full moon and you get the Neon spell. Discover and experiment with many other combinations, both powerful and unorthodox.
A Magic Sandbox:
The entire world is your magical sandbox—every object can be affected by your spells. Change the weather, grow a glowing forest overnight, levitate entire villages. Every element of the world is interactive, its potential only limited by your creativity.
Transform objects with your magic:
Create flying brooms, magical plants that grow unnatural ingredients, gardening tools that work twice as fast, and many more. Hundreds of hidden behaviors lurk within your possessions and furniture, unlock them with the right spell and a tap of your wand!

Customize your own Witches Den!

Build anywhere: Choose the perfect spot in the world to build your magical home. So long as you're willing to endure any hazards or existing residents, every inch of the world is available real estate!
Style it to your liking: Craft and customize everything in your den. Create your personal haven according to your tastes, equipped with whatever you decide.
Collect functional furniture: From shelves and signs, to cauldrons and wand-crafting stations. Collect functional furniture to aid you in your witchy pursuits!

Towns and Wishes

Grant Wishes:
Mortals will ask for your magical assistance. Constructing a house built to their specifications, delivering a cake to a friend that lives far away, warding away threats to the town on a full moon, and many other requests that only a witch can handle. Fellow Witches may ask for your help in their endeavors as well. As you grant wishes, you grow closer with others, revealing new storylines, gifts, and interactions.
Watch towns evolve:
Some wishes cause towns to grow and change dynamically. Make choices about who moves in, what kinds of buildings are constructed, and how the culture of the town evolves.
Create your own hub:
Need a place to buy alchemical ingredients? Befriend a Potion Shop owner and convince them to open a store in your nearby town. More stone for new buildings? Help a quarrier move in. Grow towns and their functions according to your needs.

Exploration and Discovery

A World of Wonders:
Venture across a vast landscape, each corner of the world offering its own unique environment, lore, and challenges. From tranquil forests to mysterious ruins, every location is brimming with hidden secrets, collectibles, treasures, and stories to uncover.
Engage in Minigames and Challenges:
The world of Witching Well is filled with delightful surprises. Partake in local festivals, Test your skills in various magical minigames found around the world, help creatures solve their own quirky problems; there's always something fun and rewarding around the corner.
Dynamic Living Ecosystem:
The world responds to your actions. Seasons shift, weather patterns change, and creatures roam freely, reacting to your spells and presence. Your interactions with the world shape the environment.
