...
It’s been a century since the last dragon left the land of Villburdhum...

These mythical creatures, once feared, were not only a threat but also unwelcome enforcers of order. In the times when dragons roamed the skies, mercenaries, bandits, and thieves stayed away from peaceful settlements, fearing their wrath. Now, with the powerful beasts gone, unrest has returned.

Without dragon protection, the land is falling back into chaos. Mercenaries raid and destroy, villages are terrorized by gangs, and monsters that once lurked in the shadow of dragons now emerge. The people, stripped of hope, seek aid from brave leaders ready to face new threats.

Lead mighty legions from various races, each with unique skills and traits. Capture villages, manage and expand your armies, and traverse an open world where daily life is a relentless struggle for survival, a battle between good and evil, and the ever-present specter of death. Whether you bring justice and peace or plunge the inhabitants into endless suffering is up to you. Your choices will leave a lasting impact on the land.

Those who dare face these challenges will be forever etched into the annals of Villburdhum.

Start of the game

At the start of the game, you choose a legion from several unique options. Your choice determines your initial amount of gold, warriors, equipment, and supplies. It also affects your reputation and honor in the land and decides whether you start with a settlement under your control or need to capture one during gameplay.

The game focuses on an open world that is generated anew each playthrough. This ensures every game offers fresh maps, characters, items, and challenges. Additionally, you can choose a campaign mode or create custom maps with specific goals to share with other players.

Double Gameplay Experience

Gameplay is divided into two key elements:

World Map – Here, you navigate the world, manage your villages, and travel between locations. This is where you strategize, plan your moves, and oversee your settlements.

Field Action – Upon entering a specific location, you switch to a local map. In this mode, you interact with villagers, engage in battles, hunt for game or treasure, trade, and more. This is where your decisions come to life in direct encounters.

World Map

Each day, all villages can experience over 60 different events affecting various aspects of village life. These events can impact residents' morale, their willingness to settle, available quests, and items for sale.

For example, wild animal attacks might offer opportunities to help villagers and earn gold. A plague could drive many residents away, while a tournament might boost village income and provide access to better weapons. Each event presents unique challenges and rewards, enriching your strategic decisions and gameplay experience.

Settlement Management

As the ruler of a settlement, it's crucial to ensure the basic needs of residents are met. Provide food, manage resources, and ensure their well-being to maintain a thriving community.

You may need to lower taxes to improve resident satisfaction if they are unhappy, or undertake missions to remove threats such as monsters disrupting village life. Balancing these responsibilities will help you build a prosperous and content settlement.

As a village leader, you can also expand your settlement with additional buildings. These upgrades will help meet residents' needs, enable the production of valuable goods, and allow you to visit specific buildings during field actions, enriching your strategic options and interactions within the village.

Discover Knowledge and Upgrades

As you progress through the game, you can uncover various forms of knowledge that provide powerful upgrades to your gameplay. Discovering Monarchy allows you to command more legions, Military Arts grants attack bonuses for your warriors, and Agriculture ensures better yields. Each discovery strengthens your strategic capabilities and fortifies your position in the game.

Dynamic Map Encounters

While traveling with your legion on the map, you may encounter a variety of events. You could meet a lone traveler for a chat, face wild animal attacks, or be ambushed by forest trolls.

Additionally, you might discover treasure-filled caves, bandit camps, become stuck in swamps, or encounter wild tribes. Each event presents unique challenges, offering different actions and outcomes in the field.

Managing Legion Equipment

Dive into your legion's inventory to manage and review member gear, character stats, and backpack items. Get detailed information on each piece of equipment, track your soldiers' attributes, and organize necessary items to gain a strategic edge. Properly organizing character equipment can be crucial in battle:

Balanced Equipment – Equip heroes with both ranged weapons, like bows and arrows, and melee weapons to handle various combat situations.
Mages – Ensure mages have mana potions to maintain their magical abilities.
Healing Herbs – Provide healing herbs to weaker warriors to support their survival during battles.

Optimizing equipment based on character roles and needs can significantly impact your effectiveness in combat.

Discover a Rich Variety of Items

Explore a vast array of over 400 non-military items that enhance your gaming experience. These items can be used in various ways, such as cooking, eating, or trading. Items for your characters are dynamically generated during gameplay. Their quality—ranging from common to rare and very rare—affects their stats, price, and overall value. Discover and utilize these items to enrich your strategy and interactions within the game. While completing quests, searching battlefields, or interacting with villagers, you have a chance to find legendary items. These rare and powerful artifacts significantly boost your warriors' stats, offering a tremendous advantage to your strategic capabilities. Seek out these coveted treasures to gain an edge in your adventures.

Explore Diverse Terrains

In the game, you'll encounter various terrains, each affecting gameplay in unique ways: Mountains – Harsh and cold, requiring appropriate clothing for your heroes' survival.
Forests – Rich in wildlife, offering better hunting opportunities and resources.
Plains – Fertile lands ideal for farming and abundant harvests.

Different terrains also influence the availability of herbs, wild animals, trade, and the behavior of various character races. Adapt your strategies to each environment to optimize your successes in the game.

Diverse Races and Unique Character Customization

In Villburdhum, you can recruit from 10 distinct races, each with its unique traits and limitations. Some excel in melee combat, others are more resistant to damage or possess special abilities. Additionally, the game features an extensive character generator that provides millions of customization options. This ensures that each playthrough offers a fresh set of character appearances and personalities, enriching the depth and replayability of your adventures.

Terrain Action Modes

Terrain action in Villburdhum is divided into two distinct modes:

Normal Mode – In this mode, there are no movement restrictions or turn-based mechanics. You can freely explore and interact with the environment, and return to the main map at any time.

Combat Mode – In this mode, the game transitions to a turn-based system, with movement ranges determined by each character's speed. To exit combat mode, you must either finish the battle or retreat by positioning your troops at the edge of the screen.

Interacting with Villagers

During terrain action, you have the opportunity to talk with villagers. These interactions can lead to various outcomes: Receiving Quests – Villagers may offer you tasks and challenges to complete. Learning About Local Events – Discover what is happening in the village or its surroundings. Trading Items – Buy or acquire items from villagers if they have something for sale.

Conversation options vary depending on current events in the village and other factors, providing a dynamic and engaging dialogue experience.

Explore Various Buildings

In the game, you'll find many types of buildings where you can purchase a wide range of items, such as: Hunter’s Hut – Stock up on animal parts and hunting gear. Market – Trade everyday items and supplies. Temple – Acquire powerful spells and magical scrolls. Armory – Equip your legions with armor and weapons. Alchemist’s Shop – Offers herbs for potion making or ready-made elixirs to aid you in your adventures. etc.

Each building provides unique resources and options, enriching your strategic choices and gameplay experience.

In addition to the basic buildings, the game features a variety of other structures with unique functions:

Place of Worship – Try to resurrect fallen warriors or, occasionally, accidentally summon a demon you’ll need to confront. Village Notice Boards – Each settlement has a Notice Board where you'll find side quests, updates on current events, news among villagers, helpful tips, and advice to aid your gameplay. etc.

These additional buildings offer diverse activities and opportunities, enhancing your game experience with new challenges and interactions.

Engage in Quests

When you receive quests from villagers, you'll need to take additional steps to complete them. Talk to other villagers to gather clues and details. Sometimes, you'll need to visit other villages or locations to find specific information or places like bandit camps, warrior graves, or hidden treasures. Quests involve both local exploration and broader discovery, making your journey dynamic and engaging.

Combat Mode

In Villburdhum, combat takes place in a turn-based system where each unit can perform one move and one action per turn. You can engage in melee attacks, shoot ranged weapons, cast magical spells, rest to recover health or stamina, and use special abilities. Physical attacks depend on the warrior’s strength and the opponent’s defense and agility. Ranged attacks, such as arrows or spears, are effective based on the character's strength, weapon quality, and the opponent's ability to evade attacks. Magical spells add an additional dimension, with effectiveness depending on the spells available and enemy resistances. Each race has unique abilities that can be used in combat, such as Ogre’s ability to draw enemy attention or additional attacks by Orcs. During combat, you can also check the opponent's equipment, allowing you to better adjust your strategy and anticipate their moves.

Alchemist's Cauldron

In the game, the Alchemist’s Cauldron is where the magic of cooking meets alchemy. Depending on the ingredients used, cooking techniques, and precision, you can create a variety of dishes and potions. From hearty meals to powerful elixirs – each recipe requires attention and skill. Experiment with different ingredients to discover new possibilities and enrich your adventures.

Created with passion - by one person: from concept to code. The idea for this game was born from nostalgia for the classic Amiga game "Legion." It's a tribute to that inspiration, which became the foundation for the development and expansion now shared.
