Part of the residences in Gaillardia City were placed under quarantine due to issues with water contamination from the nearby Soda Paradise Factory. This led to the emergence of a mysterious disease in which the infected showed symptoms of irritability, aggressiveness, hypersensitivity to light and touch, repeated movements such as teeth grinding and tongue rolling, changes in posture like lowered heads or difficulty standing, and the onset of moderate hunger.

The city mayor forcibly quarantined the residences that received the contaminated water, and the Baker siblings' apartment was one of them. A health surveillance team was periodically sent to the locked-down residences to provide food, medical assistance, and examinations.
