What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We have spent a long time working on and off on developing Dead of Day and getting instant feedback from the community allows us to identify areas where we can make the game stronger, implement further mechanics or be able to balance the game using real players before the games full release. It is also the perfect motivation to push the game to completion.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“This is a difficult question to answer, as there are many variables that would define how quickly we would be able to launch a full release. We expect to be in Early Access for at least 6-12 months as we build additional missions, story elements and areas. This also includes bug fixing and testing the core mechanics. Once we've completed that Early Access period we will certainly be able to answer that question a lot easier. Our priority is ensuring the game is fun and does justice to the dungeon crawler genre.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The game in Early Access will contain many of the elements that you'd expect in the full release. As we continue through Early Access we plan to add further areas, buildings and story elements to explore.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is pre-alpha, this means some areas of the game will not work correctly or will have bugs. Early access will allow you to play the game and visit some initial locations. There will be minor story elements. In the initial Early Access build there are two locations to discover and visit.

The Early Access version will not have been optimised, which means it may run slower than its final release. We have additional objects hidden within the game that are for reference while building the mechanics and we plan to remove these nearer completion.

The Early Access version includes the following:

* Full story introduction sequence.
* Two characters to select from.
* Two areas to visit and explore and do battle with zombies.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may increase as we continue to build further story elements and content areas.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Once we've entered Early Access we will be looking very closely at the community feedback and prioritising the list of features that we will look to work on as well as those bugs and issues that are being raised. We'll be using Steam forums extensively as our main point of contact, so if you have any thoughts on the game, come and say hello.”

About This Game

Dead of Day is a retro styled Zombie Dungeon Crawler, a mix of story, character management and survival. Go out into the world and collect resources, meet and rescue other survivors and unveil the story of what happened to the world from day zero.

A New World Order

Welcome to a new world order…a world not run by politicians or governments, but wandering, screaming and moaning Zombies, Zombies that will attack on sight or smell of anything human. Anyone still alive are hiding in fear, hoping they have enough food to get them through this nightmare, long enough to be rescued… but even if they are, what will be left of the world they lived in, the people they used to know. One word of advice, don't go out at night, and watch out for the Dead of Day.

Introduction

You start off the game in a log cabin in the USA, hearing various radio reports come through that the world you once knew is no more. Now you must decide with your limited resources, do you try and help other people or just try to survive.

You cannot stay in your home base for very long because as time passes, your food and water begin to dwindle. Search buildings and locations but beware these places may not be empty and you may have to fight the zombies. If you come across other survivors you can have them join you.

About The Development Team

Jason Darby is the main developer of Dead of Day. Having worked on many of the core features of the Formula 1 franchise from 2010 to 2015 (2011 to 2015 releases) he decided that he wanted to make a game that harked back to the old school dungeon crawlers of the 1980's and 90's. Jason began working on Dead of Day in his spare time and with a small amount of match funding from Creative England, he was able to enlist the help of a team of talented artists from Indonesia.... and so Dead of Day was born. It's been a long road and a long process, but finally we are ready to get Dead of Day into Early Access. Not only will this allow us to start getting feedback from users but also provide as the ultimate method of encouragement to finally commit to getting the game released. Time working on AAA games and living life has meant he has procrastinated long enough, now its time to finally get the game made!
