What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The Donnerwald Experiment has reached a milestone where it's finally going in the direction we want. The main focus now is to add more content (the remaining days of the game), improve the art and of course balance changes.

Players often have a critical eye and notice issues developers may overlook or categorize as "working as intended", and in this modern age it's important to listen to their feedback, too.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The planned release date for the fininished version is October 2024, though in the end it might take longer than expected. Making the game fun and enjoyable is the highest priority, while finishing it is the second highest.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Certain parts like the UI still has some placeholder art and will be certainly be updated.

Current playtime is 8~ hours with 3 Chapters for a single playthrough.
Estimated playtime is 12+ hours.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“As in October 2020, Chapter 2 of the game has been released.
As in January 2022, Chapter 3 is close to being finished but it still takes some months to polish it up.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“After each fully released chapter, the game's price will be slighly raised towards the intended release price of 20$.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Give us feedback, bug reports, suggestions, wishes and anything else that comes to your mind while trying out the game.
We'll check out comments on Steam regulary, but you're also invited to say hello in our Discord Server.”

About This Game

An endless nightmare awaits Johanna Prokuri!

She was once a prodigy, capable of creating powerful automatons and other machines.
But three years ago, she lost her creativity during a nightmare.

One day a charming mole named Montgomery appears in her dreams.
He warns her that a Dream Demon "cursed" her with something known as the Mare Noctem.
The loss of her creativity is just one of the symptoms and she's about to turn into a monster soon.

Now the duo is hunting Dream Demons together and try to find a way to get rid of her curse before it's too late.

  • An interactive combat system with action commands. Aim with your skills and evade enemy attacks.

  • Build and personify your battle machine to fight off Dream Demons. Find a way for “more inspiration” to unlock additional modules.

  • Many characters, all with their own goals, fears and dreams. You can bond with them if you deem it necessary, maybe it pays off to be nice?

  • A big plot tree which allows to see the whole story from different angles.

  • Dogs which can be pet.

  • Many special boss battles, all with their own high quality soundtrack.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:
