What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access allows me to gain inspiration and input from people who appreciate a game I have crafted for their enjoyment. As I continue to enhance the gaming experience, I get the opportunity to discuss the world I've created and how I can expand its interest.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Throughout the next year, I plan to release more content in the form of chapters that unfold the story and bring you deeper and deeper into the planet.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Whereas the demo offers the first chapter, the full version will complete the narrative - offering more chapters and puzzles as well as a surprise ending.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“This version introduces the narrative, ending with a cliffhanger that the full version will expand. Players will find three puzzles to solve along with theatrical, experiential moments. With an intentional lack of instruction, the puzzles encourage you to use your intuition to figure them out. This first chapter is roughly 20–30 minutes of gameplay and must be played in a single session.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will increase over time throughout the duration of Early Access as new chapters are released.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“There are two primary things I would love input from the community on:

Puzzles/mechanics
The puzzles should feel natural and challenging at times. It's an alien world, so some of the mechanics might intentionally feel counter intuitive to humans. I would love input on the specifics of the mechanics and the ability to maneuver through the game without instruction. I'm also interested in new ideas for puzzles that fit this alien world!

Play area
It's important that there is no locomotion. Everything must be solved in the bounds of your play area. I would love feedback on the variety of play spaces and proportions. I am also interested in how players solve the puzzles in the spaces and if they have any ideas about tweaking my spacing.

Look out for bi-weekly progress updates in the HOST Community Hub! I'll be responding to discussions there as well as creating prompts/new ideas to respond to.”

Reviews

“HOST is a heady mix of psychedelic art and hard science fiction. It sucks you into a different world more effectively than almost any other VR experience.”
Colin Northway, Creator of Fantastic Contraption

“Host's atmospheric environment and level design really make great use of [roomscale VR]...if you have a roomscale set up I highly recommend trying this game out”
Thomas Van Bouwel, Creator of Cubism VR

About This Game

Immerse yourself in an alien realm where the sights, sounds, and sensations that you experience all become clues for your survival. Touch a green glow and see its effects. Open a gateway to a new area.

Experience new rooms, and descend deeper. Level by level, tap into your gaming intuition to solve each puzzle. Who or what is the "host" and what is your relation to this space?

With a focus on experiential-based gameplay, Garrett Fuselier has created a virtual reality to challenge and cherish. The dim glow of the swelling visuals and the fluctuation of the atmospheric audio (all created solely with voice work) build a new kind of gaming experience that, like its narrative, grows in intrigue and innovation. Recalling the classic situation-based puzzles throughout gaming history, you will find no UI, no voice over, and no buttons to press (on your controller).

Inside the world of HOST, you are your only salvation.

Experiential Tip

The game will stay naturally within the confines of your environment. For the best immersive experience, change your Chaperone settings to be minimal and dark.

Warning
