What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“With a smaller development team and a lot of goals and ambitions for the project that revolves around user input, we are bringing the game into Early Access to give us the time and amount of user input and feedback needed to refine Surviving the Abyss into the best game that we can make as possible.
Feedback, as well as suggestions for future content from the community, is something we want to be able to incorporate into the game. Making Surviving the Abyss an experience shaped by the community is important to us.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our current estimation is 6 to 12 months depending on how quickly we are able to reach our milestones and implement all of our planned features and content.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Throughout Early Access, we plan to release a number of updates that will add new content and features to the game. Smaller updates including balancing, more content (techs, story events...), and systems tweaks will also be released regularly.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access build contains essentially the stable and fully playable core experience of the game as we envision it, with some content and external features missing.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price of the game might change during Early Access and/or after Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will play a role in choosing the roadmap and feature priorities. We want to build a game you will want to play, and we will listen to what you have to say!

You can (and should!) use the "Report a Bug" button to open an in-game feedback form, and report bugs and suggestions. This feedback system will send us a screenshot and your save along with any internal errors that may have occurred, so we can reproduce bugs easily and fix them within days. This feedback system is used extensively during closed alpha playtesting with major success.

If you're up for a more active discussion, join the official Discord server.”

About This Game

Earth, 1976. The cold war is in full swing and you have been tasked to construct and direct a deep sea research facility working to perfect human cloning. Survive against the odds in the extremely unforgiving abyss maintaining oxygen, power, food, and much more to keep your crew alive. Discover and mine resources for construction, light your way in the dark, and expand into your surroundings to advance your research. Capture the diverse, highly-adapted flora and fauna of the deep, but beware: the darkness hides unexpected horrors, with only the light keeping them at bay.

Lead a team of scientists conducting genetic experiments on local wildlife on the ocean floor.
Keep your population sane, obedient and alive as you expand your base and discover the secrets of cloning and genetic research.
Improve life and progress in your facility by researching advanced technologies.
The fate of your crew is in your hands! Make crucial decisions through the event system.

Ensure the survival of your crew by planning, placing and building essential infrastructure for manufacturing, research and life support.
Expand and optimize your base and its available resources. Connect your buildings and mining facilities efficiently with tunnels and powerlines.
Conquer the uneven terrain of the ocean floor with clever planning and vertical construction.

Build light pylons and push back the darkness to expand your base.
Secure resources far away from your main base by using exploration submarines and outposts.
Prevent disaster by making sure power does not fail, together with life support and light sources.

Your crew senses it, and so do you. Something is lurking at the edge of darkness, slithering and seething.
Darkness is danger, light is safety. Do not turn off the light.
