What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“This game is a passion project of mine that I have been working on since late 2018. Early access just makes sense since it will constantly be evolving and changing over the next couple of years.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“2 - 3 years”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Mix Universe will include an exploratory aspect to the game that allows you to unlock content as you play instead of being a pure sandbox game. I started with create mode as a way to get all of the core features stood up and keep the mindset of everything being editable.

Refer to the roadmap image in the description of the game for more details on what is coming next!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“There are in-game tutorials, a headquarters, and create mode with full workshop support.
Create mode is very stable and has a decent range of sounds, visuals, and the ability to move around the mix freely. I'd consider it to be somewhere between alpha and beta. Not quite beta because explore mode isn't in yet.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“After early access, it is likely that the price will remain the same or go up slightly. This is all up in the air. I never plan on doing any microtransactions or anything like that. My hope is to maintain a no-man-sky style update cadence where every update is free so long as there are always newer players to enjoy the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community is able to submit bugs and feedback requests through discord and/or a feedback form on the website. Since the community can also upload mixes to the workshop, they only motivate me more seeing all the cool things people make. Note: If you post in steam discussions, I try to look at those too, but will be easier to reach on discord.”

About This Game

Mix Universe is a musical sandbox game where you play as a Mixonaut adding beautiful vibes to the universe.

Everything you hear and see is 100% real-time and editable in-game. It is designed with beginners in mind with tutorials and automatic vibe nodes to help make it so you don't need to know anything about music to have fun. For those who want to push it a bit further, you can edit each note, scale, and FX to get a node to sound exactly how you'd like.

DISCLAIMER: Mix Universe is NOT a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) and also is not intended to be used for live performances. The features required to do so are beyond the scope and vision of this game. Mixes currently cannot be exported to any raw musical format for sale, however you are free to take videos and share the content on various social media platforms.

If you run into any issues, please join the discord and lemme know! I am a solo-dev doing the best I can so every bit helps in terms of feedback!

Key Features

  • Create many different nodes and connect them together to play sounds and visuals.
  • Sounds can be chosen from a variety of built in libraries (Piano, Drums, Space Strings, Synths, and More)
  • Sounds can be altered by adding elements to them (Volume, Duration, Attack, Pitch, LFO, Filtering, Reverb, Delay, High Pass, Low Pass, Bit Crush, and More)
  • Nodes can be moved, rotated, scaled, and snapped to a grid.
  • Fully functional undo and redo system.
  • Full Steam Workshop integration for saving and sharing mixes.
  • Aimed to be friendly to those who are new to music and music creation.

Node creation is super easy! You can click and drag to paint them down and they will automatically connect to their closest nodes.

Adding elements to nodes is as simple as clicking and dragging onto the nodes directly.

The entire node editing system is designed to try and make music creation as easy as it can be.
Every note can be edited after being randomly generated.

Drum patterns can be edited very easily.

All editing is built with multiple selections in mind.

There are other node types as well that are purely visual to help you make entire musical worlds!

After a mix is made you can save that and upload it to the steam workshop directly in-game to share with the community workshop. Then others can open up what you make, play it and potentially use it for inspiration to start something they create!
