What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Altered Algorithm is a different proposal in the single player adventure game. We want to expand on the concept of AFFORDABLE story games by condensing length, which allows for more detailed and rich worlds to explore within episodes. We want our players to participate in the development process and give us insights about this narrative driven experience for players. The goal is to eventually build triple-A visuals with indie pricing across the board.

That’s why Early Access was clearly a great platform for this game and now we can continue to build the journey together!””

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Bringing Altered Algorithm to its full potential will take some time, especially that our team is small. We cannot state a specific date, but we are hoping to exit Early Access by September 2023. We are also aiming to build more episodes dependent on player responses and support of Episode I.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version introduces a solid foundation for Episode I, but the final release will have a richer story, more improved tactile controller experience, enhanced gun, puzzle, and FMV interaction gameplay, plus a bountiful number of interactive items in the world to play with. We are also considering converting Episode I to be fully playable without VR, if the support for that option is requested by players.

Now with your support, we plan to build an even more unique and exciting experience filled with environmental FMV elements that react dynamically to different situations, plus story elements, deeper adventures around exploration and many other ideas I have!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Many simple core mechanics and features are present and are still being polished, like interactivity with dynamic FMV (Full Motion Video) characters and simple FMV Enemy AI, plus gun gameplay. Please, refer to the "About This" section to learn about our features, but for now we want your help to bring the final pieces in place! We hope you understand that the game is still in active development, so you may witness a few odd bugs, and features are subject to change and grow.””

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Right now, the game experience is free! It's all about your feedback and spreading the word for us to grow this gameplay + story. Once we hit full release, we either plan to keep Episode I free and add any updates we've made to the game. This way we only add pricing to future Episodes as they release. Those who already own Episode I (while in Early Access), could possibly see discounted pricing for future Episodes. The other option is too possible add a small price to the full launch of Episode I to those who haven't participated in Early Access. At least this gives everyone an idea of how we could approach this.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“During the early development of Altered Algorithm, we’re proud to keep a close relationship with our community through discord and other social platforms.

We have a Twitter and Instagram page where you can write to us. We ALWAYS do our absolute best to answer as many of your messages as we can. We can also promise to do our best to take your feedback and ideas into consideration, because we believe that it will lead to the best possible game made for the players, by the players.”

About This Game

Altered Algorithm: Episode 1 is a free VR experience introducing you back to a time of gaming simplicity and the excitement of unique experiences. This project has been in development for only 6 months by a small team of developers (including me, Nick DePalo), a community of amazing artists, and a group of filmmaking partners. We hope to build on this foundational endeavor of episodic adventures with your support. Our goal is to introduce new, interesting, and unique experiences to the world.

Welcome to an alternate LA, set in a futuristic 1983. You're either a militant or mercenary.

Jeremiah, our main protagonist lives in an alternate past where technology has already flourished for decades causing ALL risk to be mitigated. He's a hired "Field Adjuster" who's job is to hunt down any threats to make the world "SAFE" through the use of the most advanced AI Predictive software and Threat Analytics ever created with a new government program called... CASSI.

CASSI, a "Centralized AI Safety Surveillance Infrastructure" is designed to serve, mitigate, and protect everyone and everything.

When the A.I. Threat Algorithm Jeremiah relies on is infiltrated by Kenji Kimora, an infamous underground gang leader, an altered simulation unfolds, and it causes a system city lockdown beyond repair.

These events lead Jeremiah to embark on a journey within the simulation to explore the deep city slums of gangs, freewill, and the chaos of choice to discover the altered algorithm of who he truly is and needs to become.

There, Jeremiah is presented with the greatest risk ever encountered.... himself.

  • Action-thriller set in an altered futuristic timeline of 1983 LA, where advanced technology has already flourished for decades

  • Unique FMV (Full Motion Video) environments and characters that allow dynamic interaction within the real-time 3D world
  • "Natural Narrative" driven pacing is at the heart of our experience. The choices you make will dynamically unfold the story you drive forward. SEARCH, SOLVE, or SURVIVE... the choice is yours.

  • Environmental puzzles that involve the player to use their detective tools, the sandbox world, or weapons on hand to manipulate and solve the world's mysteries

Players assume the first-person perspective of a fully playable character in VR known as Jeremiah, who can interact within a world of FMV (Full Motion Video) characters and elements by solving environmental puzzles and options for ranged combat, which reveals your story's journey.
