What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The feedback I get would be invaluable because as of right now (writing this before release) I am the only person who has played Mech Crusade. Involving players in the development will help me make a far better game and tweak things before the game releases.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Probably six months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More content and features. What I add is partially contingent on feedback; if people want more of one thing then I'll focus on that. But what I am planning to add is more mechs, more weapons, factions, missions, general complexity, both in battle and outside it.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“I have the missions and the story mostly done. 14 missions, 5 mechs. You go from place to place on the world map to different missions, do conversations with all the different people from the different factions to get the missions.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price of Mech Crusade will increase after the game is out of early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Join the Discord. I need the opinions of people so I know what works and what doesn't. It would also be helpful for finding any bugs.”

About This Game

Overview

In Mech Crusade you play a mech-piloting mercenary sent to destabilize the continent of Merica in preparation for the upcoming Swiss invasion. You will have to navigate the world map and deal with different, competing factions and their own internal conflicts. You have the option of piloting one of five different mechs and the choice of many different weapons to help you in your task. The missions you take will affect the general course of the story and the fate of Merica.

Combat

Dropped into one of fourteen different missions, you have various objectives to complete. Parts of your own mech may be crippled or destroyed during missions, and enemy mechs can be targeted in a similar way. Your mech is a walking death-machine that can crush, burn, and repeatedly detonate your enemies into dust/gibs.

Customization

You have the choice of five different mechs and can customize your mech with many different weapons, like lasers, cannons, missile launchers, shotguns, and more. There are also slots for more general modifications, which will affect the part itself (such as more armor for the right arm), or the weapons mounted to that part (such as 50% more ammo for ballistic weaponry mounted to the right arm).

Story

The Swiss Confederation, the world hegemon, has hired you to stir chaos in the wild and untamed land of Merica before they begin their "expedition." Thankfully, the nations in the region all have bitter hatred towards each other, massive internal inconsistencies, and are generally backwards. They include the totalitarian, rapidly modernizing Amish state, the corrupt and decadent Kingdom of Bec, and The Donut, a city-state controlled by the insane Cult of Q. Should be easy pickings.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Nothing horrendous. Just some bad language, mech-on-mech violence, and very low poly people turning into incredibly low poly red chunks.
