What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We're doing Early Access because it allows us to build our game in a live community and work towards becoming better developers each day. We’d like to provide a very competitive environment that revolves around community tools and integrations. We’ll focus on gameplay first to ensure a smooth and lag free experience before worrying about animations or graphics.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“This game will be in Early Access for roughly 6-12 months. There are no plans for an official release until there are at least 7-10 maps that cover a wide range of environments and game modes. But with the way things go sometimes and the fact that it took us what felt like an eternity to even release into Early Access, it might stay in Early Access hell forever. /s”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The completed game will include at least 7-10 maps developed over the course of Early Access. It will have professional animations, high quality characters, and detailed customization options. There will be immersive sounds and improved visual effects that are increased over time so performance is never compromised. There’s also plans for a robust set of community tools and integrations. This will include detailed stats and rankings along with a competitive matchmaking system.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version is just an alpha build and has a long way to go. There’s a very simple interface and most animations are placeholder. We provide both dedicated servers and hosted user-created servers with full workshop support. There's in-game voice communication along with many essential video and audio settings needed in a competitive shooter. We also have a comprehensive set of key binding options including controller support and the ability to create controller-only rooms.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as new content is developed. We feel it’s important to grow our community and want to provide a low barrier to entry. We’re focused on building a game with longevity that players can really dedicate themselves to without worrying about it being phased out for another project the next year. That means you're going to want to buy it now while it's a cheap piece of crap. /s Think of it as a long term investment.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“There will be occasional podcasts on Twitch to engage our community and keep them up-to-date with recent news and announcements. We also have a very active Discord server where we let players know what we're working on and how they can provide feedback on new updates.”

Workshop Support

Task Force provides modders with the ability to upload custom maps, characters, and sounds using our built-in workshop tool. This workshop content can be added to any dedicated server or hosted user-created server and then included in your server maplist.

There's also the ability to access in-game content to use in custom maps. This means modders can get right to level design without having to worry about obtaining assets.

Just drag-and-drop any asset onto your map from the content drawer to start using it immediately. This also keeps the size of workshop items extremely small when other players have to download them, since all this content is already included in the game rather than in the workshop item.

You can even try the Task Force editor before buying the game. It's 100% free to use and only requires an Epic Games account with a linked GitHub account. However accessing in-game content requires Task Force to be installed in your Steam library.

Just head over to GitHub to get started:

Controller Support

All controller sensitivities, deadzones, and buttons are customizable through the in-game menu. There’s also support for creating controller-only rooms. This removes the ability to use a mouse and restricts input to joysticks only. The controller-only option is available when creating a custom server and will display a special icon in the server browser.

About This Game

Task Force is the ultimate tactical shooter sandbox that focuses on close quarters infantry combat. It aims to provide competitive arcade-style gameplay inspired by classic third-person games. Maps will include locations around the world where special operations are conducted. These could be jungles, deserts, urban areas or snowy environments. They'll be designed around single-life game modes with mechanics involving either bombs, hostages, or intel.

There are NO plans to include any of the following in Task Force:
- NO Health Regeneration
- NO Weapon Unlocks or Economy
- NO Enemy Targeting (UAV)
- NO Character Progression
- NO Killstreaks, Deathstreaks, or Perks
- NO Drivable Vehicles in PvP (Co-op Only)
- NO Looting or Weapon Drops
- NO Unrealistic Skins

TACTICAL THIRD-PERSON GAMEPLAY
Gameplay focuses on close quarters infantry combat where communication and teamwork are required. Expanding crosshairs provide a sense of weapon inaccuracy which is affected by recoil, stance, movement, and a few other factors. It rewards bursting by keeping tighter shots more precise while still allowing for accurate spray.

STRATEGIC ROUND-BASED GAME MODES
Game modes are round-based and mostly focus on single-life objectives. They’ll involve aspects such as planting or defusing bombs, extracting or guarding hostages, and capturing or defending intel. Each map will be designed to a specific game mode but may also have different areas sectioned off for different modes.

COMPETITIVE LEAGUES AND RANKINGS
Automated ladders and tournaments are integrated directly into the game. Players are provided with a detailed stats profile and a global ranking based on competitive performance. Servers are automatically created for scheduled matches and will instantly report game information upon match completion.

CUSTOM USER-CREATED LOBBIES
Servers are organized based on region and players have the ability to create their own lobbies directly in-game. These custom lobbies provide access to a robust set of management tools such as restricting players to friends-only or clan-only. It also allows for region-locking servers and automatically kicking high ping players.
